Malcolm Wiseman first played for the Ramblers in 1966. He and his wife Jennifer ('Jenny') had moved from the Bristol area to Liphook where Malcolm took up the post of sports master at Highfield preparatory school. He became a major contributor as a wicketkeeper and opening bat in the 1970s. A right-handed bat, he scored 3547 runs in 92 matches @ 46.67; secured 40 stumpings and took 54 catches at the wicket. In three seasons Malcolm scored more than 500 runs - his best year being 1975 when he totalled 820. He kept in 4 consecutive games in 1973 without conceding a bye and in 1975 against Don Barnes' XI at Brook he set up the Club record of not conceding a bye in 302 balls bowled (an innings total of 231 runs). Against Basingstoke & North Hants at May's Bounty Ground in 1974 he faced 413 balls (innings total of 204 runs) without conceding a bye. His dismissals record has only been surpassed by Gordon Smith and Winton Dean.
Malcolm's performance with the bat was also very impressive. He hit six centuries in his career with the Ramblers, the highest being 122 against Eton Ramblers at Brook in 1976. Only Nic Harper and Tony Wood have scored more centuries.
Prior to moving from Bristol, Malcolm had played for Keynsham CC in the Western League. He also had experience in both the Second XI and Minor Counties Championships. This began with 2 innings for Somerset II in 1966; 6 innings for Gloucestershire & Somerset II in 1967; 5 innings for G&S II in 1968 and 10 innings for Gloucestershire II in 1969. He played in a few matches for Hampshire II in 1976/1977. In 1978 season he had 14 innings for Dorset and, finally, in 1979 he headed the Dorset batting averages - scoring 308 runs in 11 innings with 4 not outs and a highest innings score 82; average 44.00.
Malcolm had been suffering from cancer during the last 5 years and passed away on February 20th, 2007. He leaves his wife, daughter Lucy and two grandchildren.
