The first Ramblers' match of 2001 will, in fact, be the 17th for which there are records. Hitherto we have won 7, lost 4 and drawn 4 with one game cancelled. The first match was in August 1964 in which Gerry Cogger took 6-40 and we won by 7 wickets. The following year we were comprehensively beaten by 130 runs having been bowled out in 17.1 overs by the spin of Messrs. Lush and Hamilton. This remains the third worst total in the history of the Ramblers.
In 1969 we recruited the services of Trevor Jesty (Hampshire & England) who returned the impressive figures 6-24 (the best by a Rambler in this fixture). Hugh Gauntlett scored 60 and Ramblers won by 3 wickets. Rod Turrell, better known for his Cranleigh connection, took 6-26 in the 1972 game.
In 1990, Trevor Kidson hit 77, and D.Richards 84 the following year, but the only century by a Rambler came in the 1999 fixture - 115 by R.Miller.
