'Sydenhurst Ramblers"

A long way south of Golcar CC (Yorkshire village celebrating their centenary), at Brook near Haslemere in Surrey, the Sydenhurst Ramblers have this year been celebrating 25 years as a friendly and successful club, who play their cricket totally on Sundays and in mid-week, many of the members coming from the Brook Saturday side. The Ramblers were formed by F.T. ('Mike') Gauntlett to carry on the tradition of the Chiddingfold club which played before 1939 in the grounds of a large house called Sydenhurst. Many fine players have represented them in recent years, most notably Nick Harper, who after 230 innings was close to 10,000 runs for the club, and two bowlers, Chris Terry, who has taken over 500 wickets and Gerry Cogger, who once took 50 wickets in 12 games including two hat-tricks in one innings against Heritage in 1963.'
