SYDENHURST RAMBLERS v. CLONTARF C.C.

Played at Castle Avenue on Wednesday, August 13th.

50 overs match.

The second (and what turned out to be final) match was played at Clontarf's wonderful facilities on the north side of Dublin. A 'time' match was agreed, and the Ramblers batted first to great effect - Adrian Walton and Mark Haslam opened with a very sound 98 (and ultimately fifties each), followed by Mark Milliken-Smith, in prime form, also getting one. This allowed a declaration setting Clontarf 230 in what would have been 39 overs, at towards 6 an over on a very flat and large outfield but short on one side.

Early breakthroughs by Adrian Walton took Clontarf to two down with 29 on the board, but then acceleration began with McNeice being particularly prominent and he stayed in until around 60 runs only were left to score. Enter 'Scrumpy' Pheasant for a second spell, to take 4 wickets in 7 overs, to bring the outcome into some doubt, but at the end the home team were in with three overs to spare in what was a good competitive match - to an large extent redressing the definite second best the day before.

As had come to be expected post match entertainment was generous and fulsome - with a delicious barbecue, washed down by many tinctures of ... yes, you've guessed it. And of course everyone got fined.
