SUNDAY 13TH JULY 2003 at Brook
On a glorious afternoon Sydenhurst won the toss and batted. After a solid start from Harry Hooper and John Robertson, 17 year old Douglas Bourne - on debut - played a superb innings scoring 113 and featured in a stand of 130 with Ali Mufti (29). Edward Palfrey scored some useful runs at the end which, with his 5 overs for just 5 runs plus securing a run-out in the field, also added up to an impressive debut. Adrian Walton, a Ramblers' star on many occasions, bowled superbly for Brook returning figures 9-2-11-2.
Brook began well with an opening stand of 63 - James Walker scoring 57, while James Wood - in at No.4, hit a quick 32 to take the score to 136-2. Johnny Hunter and Rob Davies both bowled well and Roly Bourne had a lengthy spell of left-arm spin which put the brakes on the scoring and saw him bag 5/76. Hunter came back to try and blow away the tail but Brook held firm for the draw.
