Ramblers v. Hampshire Hogs

Played at Warnford on Sunday, 25th May

Late withdrawals weakened the Ramblers' opening attack so the Hogs were invited to bat. Rob Davies and Mike O'Mahony bowled well with O'Mahony putting in a marathon spell of 17-4-35-0. James Wood kept wicket excellently but P.Came took advantage of a dropped slip catch to make 148.
The first five in the Ramblers order were 17 or younger. Our first wicket fell in the fifth over with the total on 16. Thereafter Harry Hooper and Nick Wood tore the bowling apart and won us the match by the end of the 32nd over. Both hit glorious strokes all round the wicket; the cleanness of the timing and certainty of placement were a joy to behold and their unbeaten partnership of 257 received generous tributes from the Hogs. I look forward to these immensely talented young men putting attacks to the sword for years to come.

Note from the Keeper of the Records:

Harry Hooper and Nick Wood have broken the 2nd wicket partnership record which has stood since 1960 when Nick Harper (102) and David Childs (138*) put on 218 against the Gentlemen of Worcestershire at Kidderminster during that summer's tour of the West Midlands. Many congratulations!
