A rather better performance in the last match of the season, but still
not good enough to secure a victory. What looked like a strong top six
didn’t really feature apart from excellent half centuries from Alexis
Fuller and Esmund Van Wyk (between them putting on 114 for the 23nd
wicket), and it was only Tim Copeman and Johnnie McGovern with an
aggressive late stand of 57 that gave modest respectability. In the
field, Simon Wilson bowled well swinging the new ball, but no others
really made a definitive impact, and the target was comfortably reached
by the visitors. The match was Esmund Van Wyk’s last before returning
home to South Africa; he has been a great Rambler, always doing his best
for the team; we wish him well in his 1st class career with Western
Province (and perhaps beyond) |
